Batch Working For Consistency
Batch working is absolutely one of my favourite ways to work. It means I can have full focus on a specific task in a set amount of time. I find providing myself a deadline to complete the task reduces the amount of procrastination I do. Take these journal posts for example, behind the scenes I batch make these on a weekend when I have more free time and more motivation to create content. I will make several posts each time and get into a good work flow and mindset for creating them as I’m not jumping between tasks. It enables me to have a few posts ready and scheduled to go live on my chosen weekly time of Friday at 6pm. I definitely feel less stress by being ahead slightly and I don’t worry about missing a day if I am away as there is only me running things over here!
As well as batching my content, I always batch my instagram posts so I am not frantically looking for an image that works and it allows me to see ahead of how my posts will look in time on my feed. I wanted to maintain an aesthetic feed and curated collection of my work and photographs and needed to think of this in advance. I use an app called Unfold to create these squares (not an ad). I add my selection into the app and move them around until I am happy with the layout and I will often aim to be two weeks ahead for this as I do my best to post daily. That means I run out of imagery more quickly due to the amount I post. The only part I don’t batch is the content for my Instagram posts as I personally prefer those to be live and ‘in the moment’ captions.
Batch working leads to consistency
I very quickly found that working in batches ensured I was able to stay consistent, not be overwhelmed and this allowed me to grow. When I have a dip in motivation and don’t post as often I see a noticeable change in my engagement and following growth. It is through consistent work that slow growth remains steady. Batching improves the quality of what I release too as it is properly thought out in small focused sessions, rather than rushed and put into the world just to have something out there. The reduced pressure helps with my mindset too, and I am very much someone who has a focus on mindsets. It makes me enjoy the process more and feel more content and much happier with what I share and will continue to be the way I work (well, most of the time at least! I certainly have blips and lack of motivation at times too and sometimes life just gets in the way and delays the process - that is ok too!)
